    Welcome to Preschool

principal "The best way to make children good
    is to make them happy."

    — Oscar Wilde

Welcome to St. Gregory Alfred & Marguerite Hovsepian School. Our preschool to 8th grade bilingual institution prides itself in nurturing the young to achieve their optimum potential as learners. We do not take the word "nurture" lightly. We believe learners excel—emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually—in a community that promotes safety.

Although we provide our students with the most progressive textbooks with ample enrichment opportunities, our knowledgeable and experienced teachers engage our students by venturing beyond the grade-level standards. We are in the profession of cultivating conscientious scholars, critical thinkers, creative visionaries, environmentalists, appreciators of the arts, and most importantly, confident Armenian-American Christians.

Additionally, we have ventured to embrace the virtues beyond the core curriculum subjects such as Choir, Computer Sciences, Dance, Drama, Gardening, Poetry, and the Visual Arts. Our gardening program, particularly, has enticed the school community to reuse, reduce and recycle. Finally, the after school sports programs have enthused K-8 students to join the basketball and volleyball teams. Recently, we added chess (as a mental sport) in our after school activities.

I urge you to visit our school and experience the cozy atmosphere firsthand. As an adult, the child in you will have difficulty walking away from this inviting environment.

Classroom doors open at 7:50 a.m. Attendance and punctuality is very important to a child's learning. Class promptly begins at 8:30 a.m.

Every student must be picked-up promptly as soon as his/her class ends. All students are to be picked-up at 2:50 p.m. Any student picked-up late at dismissal time, will be sent to late pickup care at 3:00 p.m. with additional charges.

    Before & After School Care

Before school care begins at 7:30 a.m. and after school care begins at 3:00 p.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m. Please contact the school office to register your child/children for additional care. If your child will be staying for after school care, please provide a small healthy snack.

    Sign-In & Out Folders

It is a requirement that all parents sign-in and out on a daily basis. Only parents, guardians, and adults with prior consent are allowed to drop-off or pick-up a child.

    Birthday Parties

If you would like to celebrate your child's special day at school you may. However, because of the short amount of time there is in the schedule and the importance of making sure that all students meet the state standards, we can only allow birthdays on the last Friday of each month. In addition, a simple birthday cake is preferred.

The class will be attending 2 or 3 fieldtrips. More information on the date and location will be given at a later date.

In our classes, we use 3 methods of reporting student’s work. Each wording represents a different level of student effort. Preschoolers are formally graded 3 times a year with a progress report.

Please write your child’s name with a permanent marker on the inside tag. Every year, jackets are lost because there is no name to identify the owner.

    Meeting with your child’s teacher

If you need to discuss something with your child’s teacher, you are more than welcome to make an appointment with the teacher or the office. Remember that there is always a class in session during the day, and we need to be respectful of their learning.

    Jackets and sweaters

Please write your child's name with a permanent marker on the inside tag. Every year, jackets and sweaters are lost because there is no name to identify the owner.

On occasions, we will be sending newsletters via e-mail informing you of anything new that is going on in preschool. This is the primary source of communicating with the parents.

    Parent Conferences

There will be 1 parent conference scheduled during the 1st quarter of school.

    Parent-Support- FPP

Parent-support is crucial in order for your child to succeed in his/her learning.

As a year-long policy, we do not allow students to bring toys from home. Toys create distractions to students in the classroom. It is only on Fridays that student will be given the opportunity to bring toys to school for "share day." We appreciate your help in enforcing this policy.

    Most importantly...

Our goal is to promote a high-quality preschool program, which includes a rich array of early experiences that can help prepare children for kindergarten and beyond.
